herb of the month

Grosso lavender (Lavandula x intermedia)

The intermedia lavender varieties hold up best in our climate. They do not melt in high humidity like other winter hardy types. Grosso, also know as ‘Fat Spike’ has dark blue/purple flower spikes in late spring. The tight flower heads dry beautifully. The flowers attract butterflies but the plants resist deer.

The lovely silvery foliage reaches 30 inches tall and wide. Provide a sunny, dry area for best results.
